The goal of the Smithsonian Institution is to protect and to create awareness of natural and cultural artifacts, which were otherwise being destroyed. It is the world’s largest museum, and is home to some of the most famous, as well as some of the most important historical figures and artifacts discovered over the years.

The foundation also funds digging, searching, and excavating projects, in order to find hidden or lost artifacts in regions around the world. Cultural celebrations and traveling exhibits are also funded by the organization each year, to bring more attention and awareness to the issue around these historical pieces which are being lost.
